Questionnaire Software - Installation Instructions

Installation from an e-mail attachment or web download

1. The software is delivered across the internet as a self-extracting compressed archive file.

   If you received the file by email double-click on the attachment called 'Questionnaire.exe'. It is a large file so it may take a minute to open. A message box will appear that gives you an option to either: 'Open it' or 'Save it to disk'. This your choice and you can either move this attachment to a specific folder on your hard drive or open it directly from its current position - both will allow you to follow the procedure in (2).

   If you downloaded the file from our web site use Windows Explorer to go to the directory in which you saved it and double-click on 'Questionnaire.exe'.

2. Select the preferred folder for extracting the compressed documents and then press the 'Unzip' button. Press 'OK' and then 'Close' (the default directory for extracting these files is C:\Windows\temp).
3. Now navigate in your Windows explorer to the folder that you selected above or the default folder C:\Windows\temp. There should be 4 files: Wcd1.cab; Wcd2.cab; setup.exe; Setup.lst
4. Double click on setup.exe and follow the necessary installation instructions.
5. You may see a dialogue box appear during the installation procedure with the following message, (if not continue to point 8)

   ! Setup cannot continue because some system files are out of date on your system...

   This is mainly due to outdated DLL (Dynamic Link Library) files present on your computer. By selecting 'OK' the setup program will reboot your computer and update the necessary DLL's.
6. Once your computer has rebooted, re-run the setup.exe file from the same location as in point 4.
7. The installation should now be complete. Click on the 'Start Button' and 'Programs' and look for 'World Commission on Dams Survey' which will allow you to click on the menu 'Cross Checked Questionnaire'. This will open the electronic questionnaire forms.
8. Installation is now complete. For instructions on how to fill in the forms please refer to the "readme" file found under the 'Help' Menu in the program.

1. Insert disk marked 'Setup Disk 1' into the disk drive ("A" drive).
2. Click Start.
3. Click Run.
4. Type A:\setup.exe
5. Click OK
6. This program will ask you the necessary questions to install the program to your computer.
7. The program will also create a programs item in your start menu to access the Survey Questionnaire.
8. In most cases you will see the following dialogue box appear during the installation procedure, if not continue to point 10.

9. Once your computer has rebooted, re-run the setup.exe file from the disk marked 'Setup Disk 1'.
10. Installation is now be complete. Click on the 'Start Button' and 'Programs' and look for 'World Commission on Dams Survey' which will allow you to click on the menu 'Cross Checked Questionnaire'. This will open the electronic questionnaire forms.

1. Click on Start, go up to Settings and click on Control Panel
2. In Control Panel double-click on add/remove programs
3. Select World Commission on Dams - Cross-check survey questionnaire from the list of installed programs, then click the button labelled Add/Remove...
4. The uninstall program will remove the software from your system
