Final meeting of WCD Forum members in February 2001
The Third meeting of the 68-member WCD Forum is planned for 25-27 February 2001 in Cape Town. This will be a key opportunity to discuss feedback on the report from all around the world, and to consider the need, if any, for organised follow-up activities through partnerships between Forum members or other means.
This meeting will be a significant turning point in the WCD process and will enable the stakeholders to discuss their reactions and responses to the report, and to inform colleagues of follow-up initiatives already planned or underway. The Secretariat has invited Prof Tony Dorcey to facilitate the meeting, a return to the constructive, independent and professional approach that he brought to the Gland meeting that gave rise to the Commission in the first place.
The meeting is by invitation only, however the Secretariat would welcome your views on Dams and Development : a New Framework for Decision-making, and on the need for any structured international follow-up, as well as news of any local, national or international initiatives that build on the momentum generated by the WCD report. These will be shared with Forum members at the meeting.
